Project Based Housing
Similar to the Housing Choice Voucher Program qualified applicants receive a housing subsidy. Unlike HCV the assistance is attached to the PBV Unit and does not follow the person. Scroll further to see our projects and additional housing opportunities.
Hodgkins School Apartments are a 47 unit affordable housing residence located at 17 Malta Street in Augusta for adults age 55+. This beautiful property is the product of the adaptive reuse of the Historic Hodgkins School and boasts expansive grounds with a park-like feel, modern apartments with air conditioning and dishwashers, on-site laundry, community room, healing garden, and raised garden beds for resident use. Small pets are allowed and all will enjoy nature trails adjacent to the property. Located close to Hannaford, banks, and downtown. Transportation is available through the Kennebec Explorer.
Rent Includes heat, hot water, and air conditioning. Rent levels are based on Kennebec County's income limits. Applicants must meet the minimum income guideline to qualify. The development consists of 32 residential units in a three-story building containing 16 one-bedroom units, 9 two-bedroom units and 7 three-bedroom units, an elevator connecting all floors, a community room, bicycle/stroller storage, outdoor play area and garden for residents, laundry room and office, and onsite parking. Heat/Hot Water is included. A resident service coordinator will be available onsite. The development is for individuals and families.
Twenty of the units shall be occupied by households with income at or below 50% of area median income (Kennebec County), twelve of the units shall be occupied by households with income at or below 60% of area median income (Kennebec County). Eight of the units will have project-based vouchers.

The historic Augusta City hall building was restored and renovated into 31 assisted-living apartments. Located on the bank of the Kennebec River in the heart of downtown Augusta. Augusta Housing offers a variety of incentives to landlords who participate with our Housing Choice Voucher programs. Rules and regulations apply.
Landlord Incentive Fees$350 Signing Bonus for every unit newly leased. One year lease and passed HQS inspection required.

Landlord Repair GrantsUp to $5,000 per year to help fix items that failed initial HQS inspection.
